OSTEOPATHY

Osteopathy is an established system of clinical diagnosis and manual treatment in which a caring approach to the patient and attention to individual needs are of primary importance.

In particular, it is concerned with the inter-relationship between the structure of the body and the way in which it functions and is therefore an appropriate form of therapy for many problems affecting the neuro-musculo-skeletal system.

Osteopaths can detect and treat injured parts of the body such as muscles, ligaments, nerves and joints, relieving much musculo-skeletal pain and dysfunction with a variety of different techniques. Treatment is tailored to the individual, ranging from very gentle to firm. It may include joint mobilisation, passive and resisted stretching, spinal manipulation and deep tissue massage. Rehabilitative exercises and postural advice are also routinely given.

Better spinal mobility can improve nerve and blood supply to all major organs and stimulate their function, resulting in increased overall vitality and good health. When our bodies are balanced and efficient, they will function with the minimum of wear and tear, leaving us more energy for living.

Osteopathy is one of only two complementary therapies in the UK regulated by law. It is illegal for anyone to call themselves an osteopath unless they are registered with The General Osteopathic Council which is the statutory regulatory body in the UK. All our osteopaths have completed a four year full-time BSc in Osteopathic Medicine.

Some of the conditions which osteopathy can help relieve are:

Back pain & disc problems Arthritic pain Leg pain & sciatica Headaches & migraines Repetitive strain injury Shoulder & neck pain including frozen shoulder Pregnancy and post natal pain IBS & period pain Sports injuries Postural work strain Joint pain, muscular aches, pains and strains Tennis & golfer’s elbow Asthma & respiratory problems
